Tune of the Month

A short documentary about the Green Briar session.

History of the sessions at the Green Briar

The very first early session at the Green Briar was on a warm August Monday in 2000.  You can read the whole history of session by its founder, Bill Firla, here.  Today,  the Green Briar actually hosts two sessions every Monday night.  At 7pm Frank Horrigan and Stuart Brorson host the Early Session, where all musicians are welcome.  At 9pm faster, more experienced players take over and play until 11pm.

The 7pm session was originally a "slow session", where student players could learn their craft and try to improve.  The group has long ceased to be a slow session, and though beginners are still welcome, the session is geared to solidly intermediate players.

In 2009, it was decided that in order to stretch the players' abilities,
a "Tune of the Month" would be chosen, learned as a group,
and added to the session's repertoire.
Below you will find a listing of (most of) those tunes.

Many thanks to Stuart, who for so many years administered the TotM, and to Colin K, who has taken over the task.
